Police say they have arrested a man after a teenage boy fell from a moving vehicle at Appleby Horse Fair.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Long Marton Road, close to the junction with Belgravia in Appleby, on Friday evening.

The boy was rushed to hospital, after he reportedly jumped off the back of a moving vehicle, causing his head to hit the ground.

The 15 year old remains in hospital in a critical condition.

In an update, Cumbria Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The arrested man has since been released under investigation.

A spokesperson said: "Officers investigating a road traffic incident in Appleby in which a 15-year-old suffered serious injuries arrested a man yesterday (11 June) on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

"The arrest was part of efforts by officers to establish the full circumstances of how the 15-year-old came to be injured."
