Major road closed in Barrow after fire fighters declare a "major incident"
Crews were tackling a fire at a terraced house yesterday afternoon
A major road in Barrow-in-Furness is still closed this morning, after firefighters declared a "major incident" whilst tackling a fire last night.
Crews were called to Salthouse Road at around 6pm yesterday.
9 fire engines, as well as specialist units from Cumbria and Lancashire, were drafted in, with a major incident being declared a short time later.
There was concern that the blaze could spread to other terraced properties, and Cumbria Fire & Rescue say their focus was to ensure the safety of residents.
In a statement they said: "At around 5 p.m. on June 22nd, 9 fire engines and a number of specialist units from Cumbria and Lancashire were dispatched to Salthouse Road in response to reports of a large fire at a residential property"
"Teams worked tirelessly to contain the fire, which was affecting a row of terraced properties, and to ensure the safety of nearby residents. Their quick and efficient actions have significantly helped to alleviate the situation"
Salthouse Road is still closed off this morning, with a large police presence. There is no timeframe from when the road is expected to be re-opened.
