A chunk of the M6 will remain shut between Carlisle and Annan until this afternoon after two lorries collided yesterday (15th July).

The section between J44 and 45 heading northbound was first closed around half past six last night.

One caught on fire and there was said to be a lot of debris on the road although no injuries have been reported at this time.

Recovery and resurfacing work will continue today (15th July).

A diversion is in place. Police Scotland said: "The northbound diversion is from J44 north on the A7 to Longtown, and then west on the A6071 to J45.

"HGVs – Rockcliffe via the military road is not suitable for HGVs. Stick to the above diversion."

At the time of the crash, both sides of the carriageway were held while emergency services attended and fire crews worked to put out the blaze.
