People are encouraged to put their own ribbons on the fence.
Abuse support organisation ,Survivors Voices, have collaborared Carlisle Cathedral and to launch a national LOUDfence campaign.
It comes ahead of All Survivors Day on November 3rd .
People are invited to visit the cathedral to tie a ribbon and a message of support on a fence erected around the building. There will also be times of worship and reflection, and information about support, at both cathedrals as part of their Safeguarding Seasons.
On their website Survivors voice described themselves and the Loud fence project: "A survivor-led organisation that harnesses the expertise of people affected by abuse in order to transform society’s response to trauma and abuse.
"We are ‘experts by experience’, survivors of all types of abuse, experienced as a child or as an adult, turning our pain into the power to create something good. Our vision is for a safer society with support for survivors that is survivor-sensitive, survivor-empowering and services that are trauma-aware and trauma-competent.
"Survivor Activists and allies all over the world get involved in LOUDfence, in solidarity with child abuse victims. A Loudfence involves tying LOUD (bright coloured) ribbons and messages of support in public spaces to show support to ALL victims & survivors of child abuse. The aim is to give survivors a voice, create awareness in the community and work to end child abuse.
"We launched our LOUDfences in the North, South and East of England in 2021, as part of a Safeguarding Season of survivor-led activities. Now they’re spreading all over England and Wales, and into Europe and the USA too! But you can run a LOUDfence anywhere, any time. We hope you will join us!"
