Plans for holiday pods for disadvantaged children in Bowness-on-Windermere
Proposal aims to connect children with nature and teach local skills.
A proposal to place six holiday accommodation pods for disadvantaged children on a field in Bowness-on-Windermere is now being considered by Lake District planners.
The plan, submitted by Julie Eve, involves a partial change of use for Alma’s Meadow off Smithy Lane.
According to the planning statement, the project is focused on providing a peaceful sanctuary for children with special needs and disadvantaged backgrounds, connecting them with nature and creating a sense of inclusion.
The proposal includes teaching the children local skills, nature-based activities, and animal-assisted therapy.
There are plans to offer unique experiences, such as birds of prey displays and archery, exclusively for the accommodation’s visitors.
The site, situated near the A592, is surrounded by woodland, houses, and scenic views over the lake and hills. It lies outside the Bowness Conservation Area but is within the English Lake District World Heritage Site and Area of Outstanding Beauty.
Lake District National Park officers are currently reviewing the application.
