Flood warning in force as heavy rain hits Cumbria
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain across Cumbria
A flood warning has been issued for parts of Keswick as heavy rain continues to fall across Cumbria.
The Met Office has placed a yellow weather warning for rain in force from midnight until 11:00 BST, with forecasters warning of difficult driving conditions, surface water and possible flooding in low-lying areas.
The Environment Agency said flooding is expected along the River Greta at Keswick, affecting areas including Keswick Campsite, Keswick Rugby Club and the Quinta.
Low-lying roads, residential and commercial properties, and recreational areas such as Greta Park Rugby Football Ground, Keswick School Sports Field, Keswick Show Field and Playing Field are all at risk.
Rising river levels are expected to cause flooding from around 04:30, with levels predicted to peak below 3 metres before lunchtime. The rainfall is forecast to ease after 08:00, although authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
Residents are being urged to remain vigilant and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water.
"Act now to protect yourself"
The Environment Agency said: “We are closely monitoring river levels and weather forecasts. Please take care and act now to protect yourself and your property.”
People are advised to check the latest updates via the Check for Flooding service.
The flood warning is expected to be updated by 13:00 on Tuesday or earlier if conditions change.
