Police are looking for information that can help aid their investigation where an officer was nearly killed in Dumfries.

Officers were called to assist a member of the public on Herris Avenue around 12.10am on Monday, 28 July 2025.

A little over an hour later at 1.20am, a silver Subaru Forester car was purposely driven at a male officer who attended the scene.

It’s been confirmed that the officer was taken to DGRI, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police are treating this as attempted murder.

The vehicle was found abandoned near Catherine Field Road.

The driver of the silver car is described as male, with a slim to medium build, dark hair cut short at the sides, and wearing a grey top and trousers and trainers.

Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: “Our thoughts are with the officer, his family and colleagues at this time. We will continue to offer them all the necessary support.

“This incident is being treated as attempted murder, and we will use all tools at our disposal to trace the person responsible.

“I am asking anyone who may have seen the Subaru driving around the area around that time on Monday and in the few days before the incident to get in touch.

“Similarly, anyone in the area at the time with dashcam footage should contact us.”
