Doors will open for free at historic and cultural venues across the Borders next month.

Celebrating its 35thĀ year, Doors Open Days is a national event that provides free access to sites and activities throughout Scotland, promoting awareness of the countryā€™s built and cultural heritage and ensuring it is accessible to all.

Events in the Borders will be taking place across September 7 and 8, allowing the region to showcase the places for which it is known for including some lesser-known hidden gems.

Events taking place include:

Free guided tours of Borders Distillery

The chance to explore Channelkirk Church

See behind the scenes at TD9 Radio, where visitors will see live programmes being broadcast and have a look around the studios

Walks around the largest Roman fort site north of Hadrianā€™s Wall ā€“ Trimontium Fort

Details of all the events and activities taking place both locally and nationally ā€“ are available on the Doors Open Days website:Ā www.doorsopendays.org.uk/

Councillor Simon Mountford, SBCā€™s executive member for Estate Management and Planning, said: ā€œIt is fantastic that we can showcase our amazing buildings as part of Doors Open Days.

ā€œThe event provides a free behind-the-scenes experience for both local visitors and those from further afield.

ā€œDoors Open Day presents an exciting opportunity each year, and for its 35thĀ anniversary there is a wide range of properties throwing their doors open. I encourage anyone interested to take part, and to step inside these properties.ā€

Joe Traynor, director of Scottish Civic Trust, Doors Open Days national coordinator: ā€œEvery year Doors Open Days allows us all to enjoy Scotlandā€™s places and spaces for free. This is more important than ever this year, as travel costs continue to rise leading many to seek more affordable experiences.ā€

ā€œSome of Scotlandā€™s greatest treasures are right on our doorstep or easily accessible by local public transport. Doors Open Days makes it simpler than ever to plan a cost-effective and unique day out.ā€
