Court hears man died after dog bite led to blood infection

An 89 year old man died after developing a blood infection following being bitten by his neighbour's dog.

Joseph James, lost the tip of the finger on his left hand in Workington, he then developed a fever with his blood having been infected with a bacteria found in the mouths of dogs and cats.

He remained in hospital for around a month until he died.

58 year old Martin Hawley, of Warwick Place, was given an 18-month prison sentence, suspended for a year after admitting a charge of permitting a dog to cause injury while dangerously out of control.
