FINANCE: What will league 1 look like for Carlisle
A football finance expert has been speaking to GHR Cumb
GHR Cumbria has been taking a look at what promotion could mean for Carlisle in terms of money, if they win on Sunday.
They face Stockport at the weekend at Wembley, with a win securing their promotion to league 1 football.
Kieran Maguire, a Football finance expert, said: "The gap between league 2 and league 1 is relatively small, they'll probably be looking to earn an extra 1 to 2 million pounds over the course of the season.
"They will have some big clubs in that division coming to Carlisle, the likes of Portsmouth, derby county, Charleton and so on. There will be an increase in terms of the away support coming to town but in terms of overall finance the gap between league 1 and league 2 is much narrower.
"The advantage of that is that the clubs tend to not to take the approach of gambling with the future of the club.
"I know one or two people at Carlisle and the important thing from their perspective is the outstanding borrowing the club has with lenders need to be address.
"Then we can have some certainty in terms of the stability of the club."
