Carlisle man jailed for multiple offenses

A Carlisle's man been jailed after he attacked an off-duty police officer.

Lewis O’Neil was in a bar on Botchergate last month when the attack happened.

The 24-year-old, from Ullswater Road was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.

Investigating the case Police Constable Carl Robertson said “O’Neil assaulted the off-duty officer in what he admitted in interview was an unprovoked attack, throwing multiple punches.

“We take violent offences extremely seriously and anyone involved in this type of offending should expect to receive a robust response from us.

“When interviewed about making off without payment O’Neil confirmed to officers it was him in CCTV. This is not a victimless crime and affects local businesses.”
