The Barrow MP says he hopes lessons are learned - after the death of Leiland-James Corkill.

The one-year-old was murdered in the town in 2021 by the woman who was looking to adopt him.

A review found she'd lied about her financial issues - and whilst adoption procedures were followed, there were "holes" in the system.

The coroner recorded a verdict of unlawful killing.

Simon Fell said;

'This could have just be a rogue incident, and if someone wants to deceive the authorities, it's very difficult for them to find that - and all the checks were followed appropriately.

'Nevertheless, there's lesson to be learnt here and I hope that procedures are tightened up'.

Council officials said lessons had been learned and the processes made more "rigorous" and "robust".
