Woman in 'critical condition' after collision on the Barrow Coast Road

An 88 year old woman is in a critical condition after a two-car collision left the Barrow Coast Road closed in both directions.
She was airlifted to hospital this afternoon, along with a man in his 20s whose injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening.
The road is currently closed from Rampside roundabout to Long Lane and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours whilst investigations are carried out, the vehicles are recovered and the road is made safe.
Police were called to the incident at 2:11pm today to a report of a two vehicle collision involving a Mini Cooper and a Skoda Fabia.
Police, ambulance and HeliMed attended the scene.
Two people were taken to hospital by HeliMed.
Police say the 88-year-old woman is in a critical condition, while a man in his 20's suffered serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Drivers are being advised to plan their routes accordingly.
