Plans to convert a ‘redundant’ barn in the Lake District into housing have been given the go-ahead.

The Lake District National Park Authority has approved plans put forward by Mike and Adele Walford to divide a barn at Key Moss in Witherslack into two homes.

According to planning documents the building has been designed by the proposed users to meet their direct needs and family requirements.

A design and access statement submitted on behalf of the applicant says: “The existing barn are redundant and therefore under general decline. The proposed development will repair the barn and regenerate the buildings life.

“The proposals have been sympathetically designed with minimal new opening. The layout has been designed to utilise the existing openings and retain the buildings character, with minimal disturbance to the external envelope so as not to distract from the building character.

Plans say the existing building materials will be maintained with new materials locally sourced to match the existing building.

This planning application was approved by the Lake District National Park Authority on July 2.
