A man has today (Feb 18) been jailed for grievous bodily harm after being found guilty at an earlier hearing.

Adam Bromley, 43, of Main Road, High Harrington was sentenced to five years for section 18 – grievous bodily harm with intent at Carlisle Crown Court.

He has also been given an indefinite restraining order.

The court heard that on 1 July 2024 police received a report that Bromley was assaulting a woman at an address on Salterbeck Road, Workington.

The report was from someone who had been called by the victim and could hear the assault on the phone.

Before officers got to the address Bromley had fled the address but was arrested back at the property.

The victim suffered a broken wrist on her left arm and broken forearm on her right arm.

Detective Constable Lisa Baker from Cumberland CID said:

“Bromley subjected the victim to a serious assault resulting in two breaks to her arms.

“The assault was also heard by someone close to the victim who quickly contacted police.

“Bromley had no remorse for his actions or the injuries he caused to the victim.

“It is understandably difficult for victims of abuse to talk about what happened to them; the victim rightly reached out to someone who reported the incident on her behalf.

“I would encourage anyone who has been victim to a domestic offence to contact police so that our officers can investigate. You will be supported throughout our investigation.”
