Thousands of people have packed into the fields at Lowther Deer Park near Penrith, as the first full day of music gets underway at Kendal Calling.

Kasabian are headling the main stage tonight, with the likes of The Lathums, Example and Melanie C also on the bill.

The festival kicked off last night with a headline performance from Nile Rodgers and Chic, who certainly brought some 'good times' to the event.

Anti-drugs operations are also in force at the festival. With snigger dogs on all entrances. Aiden Bew is the dog section seargent, he said: "We don't have a single dog that has a malicious bone in it's body, they are all really friendly and we take them to public engagement events all the time.

"When they are conducting searches the dogs don't make contact with people. They scan the area around people, they don't make contact, and then will make an indication to the handler if they detect something that we should be made aware of.

"We're very luck with this festival, it's a family atmosphere, you see a lot of families, kids neighbours and friends coming in. It's really nice, a lovely atmosphere, and the majority of people are just coming to enjoy themselves."
