Paramedics were forced to call for help when their ambulance became stranded on black ice in Coniston.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team (CMRT) were called to the incident in Ambleside on Friday evening.

The ambulance was attending a lady who had slipped and suffered a head injury, but due to icy conditions, her family weren't able to take her to hospital.

According to CMRT, two vehicles were deployed and chains were needed on them to navigate the state of the roads.

They said in a Facebook post: "On arrival at the ambulance's location, we picked up one of the paramedics and her equipment, and continued to the casualty.

"The other vehicle and team members stayed to release the ambulance from the ice and help transport it back to safer ground.

"The casualty was assessed and treated by the paramedic and we then drove back to rendezvous with the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) ambulance and the rest of the team."

The lady was then transferred to the ambulance and taken onward to hospital.

CMRT confirmed that 10 team members attended and the incident took three hours and 18 minutes to resolve.
