An amber alert has been issued across Cumbria for increased wildfire risk, due to the warm weather.

In a post on social media, the Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) said the warning covers all of the region for the next day.

Only this morning (01 May), firefighters in Derbyshire have been tackling a large blaze in the Peak District.

Shocking drone images have revealed the scale of what is thought to be the worst moorland fire in the Peak District since 2018.

In Cumbria, the LDNPA said: "Wildfires have the potential to devastate the Lake District landscape, kill animals and ruin habitats.

"An amber alert has been issued across Cumbria for increased wildfire risk over the next two days.

"Please do not light fires, take litter home with you and leave no trace."

Cumbria Fire and Rescue are also reminding people to enjoy the weather and countryside safely and responsibly.

It said: "Most wildfires in the UK are caused by human activity, which means it is important that you take extra care.

"Don't bring a disposable barbecue, avoid lighting campfires in the countryside, take your litter home, and dispose of cigarettes and smoking materials safely.

"Please take care when parking to leave access roads, tracks and gates clear, and avoid parking on dry vegetation.

"If you do see a fire, always move to safety and call 999. Do not attempt to tackle the fire yourself."
