Woman hit by car in Cumbria after reportedly lying in road
Officers are trying to understand the circumstances that led up to the collision
A woman is in a critical condition after she was reportedly hit by a car whilst lying in the road in Cumbria.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing GBH, as officers believe a potential altercation happened between a man and the woman just before the collision.
Emergency services were called out to the A595 near Beckermet at 12am yesterday (1st February).
They received reports that a red BMW 118I had collided with a woman reportedly lying in the road.
The woman, who's in her 40s, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
She suffered life-threatening injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Paddy McDonnell, Cumberland CID, said: “We are appealing for the public’s help to establish the full circumstances of this incident.
“Specifically, we are attempting to understand what occurred prior to the collision where we understand there was a fight between a man and a woman who are both known to each other.
“It is not clear how or why the woman involved was in the road prior to the collision with the BMW or if there had been a separate fail to stop collision prior to the reported incident.
“We would like to hear from anyone who had seen a man and a woman in the area at the time or has any information connected to this incident.”
Anyone with information should contact the police by calling 101 or reporting it online, quoting incident number 1 of 1 February.
