Cumbria boy charged with racially aggravated assault in Carlisle

The boy will appear before Carlisle Youth Court on Friday

Police in Cumbria have charged a 15-year-old boy with racially aggravated assault in Carlisle.

Officers were given the authority to charge the boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - following a consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The charge related to investigations undertaken by Cumbria Police relating to a racially aggravated hate crime.

In the incident, a boy had been assaulted in the Carlisle area on March 15th, 2024 During the incident, racist remarks were made towards the victim.

Cumbria Police confirmed that the 15-year-old suspect was charged with racially aggravated common assault.

The boy will appear before Carlisle Youth Court on Friday (April 25th) regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Crown Prosecution Service is "considering" launching charges against another three boys that were involved in the attack, but have not made a decision yet.
