"We need to take action" - police continue appeal after 12-year-old killed in Coventry hit-and-run
West Midlands Police has praised the community's support for the family of Keaton Slater
Police investigating the death of 12-year-old Keaton Slater from Coventry have praised the people of Coventry for their response to the tragedy.
Keaton was killed after being struck by a black BMW on Friday 14 June on Radford Road.
A JustGiving page set up to support Keaton's family has reached over £48,000, a Coventry day care held a bake sale, and a school in the city will raise money from a non-uniform day - all going towards the Slaters.
Sgt Rich Evans said: "You can see from the Facebook updates and appeals we've put out the emotions it's created in Coventry, and it shows the support behind the family, this is a devastating loss for them.
"It has affected the officers who are involved and I can see why it's become such an emotive appeal; a 12-year-old has tragically lost their life through somebody's driving and we need to take action on that."
Police are still looking for 21-year-old Dolars Aleksanders - the man they believe was behind the wheel of the car that killed Keaton.
One man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on bail, and another man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and remains in police custody.
