Warwickshire Police told they need to do better in new report
The annual PEEL inspection evaluates all 43 police forces in England and Wales to assess how effective they are. Warwickshire Police have been told they need to improve in certain areas.
Last updated 14th Oct 2022
The inspection by HMICFRS focuses on several areas in the force and rates them outstanding, good, adequate, requires improvement, or inadequate. It's like an Ofsted inspection, but for police forces.
The report said: "I am satisfied with several aspects of the performance of Warwickshire Police in keeping people safe and reducing crime, but there are areas where the force needs to improve."
The areas that require improvement include:
- Investigating crime
- Responding to the public
- Managing offenders and suspects
The areas that have been rates adequate include:
- Engaging with and treating the public with fairness and respect
- Preventing crime and anti-social behaviour
- Protecting vulnerable people
- Building, supporting, and protecting the workforce
- Strategic planning, organisational management, and value for money
They had no outstanding, good, or inadequate ratings.
Deputy Chief Constable Alex Franklin-Smith told us: "The recommendations for improvement are very helpful and there are areas we are already committed to addressing.
"Organisational changes will ensure that by spring 2023, that we have the right people in the right places with the right skills."
He continued: "Investment in protective services, prevention resources, and provision for domestic abuse, rape, serious sexual offences, child exploitation and abuse, trafficking and exploitation will enable us to prevent crime and safeguard vulnerable people."
Police Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe said: "Warwickshire residents want to know that their police force is well-run.
"I can provide reassurance that the force has detailed programmes both planned and already under way to improve its overall performance.
"The ingredients for future success are clearly there and while change is never easy, I know that everyone at Warwickshire Police remains deeply committed to further improving the service delivered to the public."
