Warwickshire man arrested after car ploughs into pub

A man has been arrested after reports of a car crashing into a pub in Warwickshire.

Emergency services were called to the Windmill Inn in Leamington Spa yesterday evening just after 10pm, following reports of a car colliding into the building.

Two people were reported to have fled from the vehicle.

A 39-year-old man from Warwick has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, failing to stop after an accident, drink driving and driving without a licence.

He was taken to hospital for a check-up prior to being taken to custody, where he remains.

It’s reported that there was concern a gas pipe was damaged, so the building and multiple properties nearby were evacuated.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed no gas pipe was damaged, but a structural engineer was called to check the pub.

The vehicle has been seized, and work was carried out over night to make the building secure.

Warwickshire Police is appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to come forward.
