Thousands of volunteers needed for Commonwealth games ceremonies
Applications are open to be involved in the opening and closing ceremonies

The organisers of Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games are urging people across the West Midlands to apply for one of 2,000 volunteer spots in the cast of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies this summer. Applications are open from today (13th January) to anyone who's over 18, based in the region, and passionate about music and dance. Applications close on Monday 7 February 2022.
The ceremonies for the huge event, which kicks off in Birmingham in July, will be performed in front of a full capacity audience in the city's Alexander Stadium. Up to a billion people will be watching around the world as well.
The team of renowned creatives from the West Midlands, including Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight, and award-winning writer, Maeve Clarke, are calling for 'the most ambitious, outgoing, and dedicated local people' to apply to be part of the performance that opens and closes the biggest sporting celebration since the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Creative Director, Iqbal Khan said:

Cllr Ian Ward, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said:

The organisers of the Ceremonies are looking for;
- People who can move to a beat to join the volunteer cast who will be in the majority of our show
- People with some of the following specialist skills; amateur circus, dance, ballet or parkour enthusiasts.
- Welcoming and friendly people to act as Athletes Hosts who will welcome the athletes that are taking part in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
- Established choirs who can join together, to form a truly one off, mass choir.
