Swimming and Para Swimming team announced for Commonwealth Games

Team England announced the 38 swimmers who will be participating in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games this summer

Thirty-eight athletes have been selected to be part of the Swimming and Para Swimming team for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The announcement from Team England was unveiled at Moseley Road Baths but all aquatic events at the games will be taking place at Sandwell Aquatics Centre.

The team is made up of 16 female swimmers and 22 male swimmers.

It's also the first time there will be more female events than male at any games.

Jay Elliott is one of the athletes chosen to be part of the team, he said: " It's the first stage of my goal but it's also a huge relief to get through this period.

"I know what I'm capable of but obviously the first hurdle is the hardest.

"I'm now so excited to get my head down and get knuckling on for the Commonwealth in the summer."

The swimmers selected for Team England in this announcement are:

• Cameron Kurle (Stirling University), Glastonbury

• James McFadzen (Loughborough University), Loughborough

• Edward Mildred (Bath NC), Northampton
