Standoff continues between police and man in Coventry
Officers were called to a welfare check on a man and child yesterday
A cordon remains in place around a house in Coventry this morning where a man has been refusing to come out since the early hours of yesterday morning (9 January).
The 41-year-old has his eight-year-old son with him on Earlsdon Avenue North and there are some concerns for their safety.
Several officers, including armed police and other specially trained officers, are at the scene to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
There are currently road closures in place at:
Earlsdon Avenue North with Kensington Road
Highland Road
The top of Westwood Road with Earlsdon Avenue North,
Newcombe Road
Earlsdon Avenue North at the roundabout with Albany Road
Poplar Road with Newcombe Road.
The local primary school has also been closed for the day because it fall within the police cordon.
The library at Earlsdon Avenue North and Albany Road has been opened for residents and officers to use.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance said:
'We were called to an incident on Earlsdon Avenue North at 11.29am on Sunday, a paramedic officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene.
'We were not required to treat any patients whilst in attendance and were later stood down.'
