Three robbery arrests in Rugby
Three suspects threatened and assaulted staff members
Three individuals have been arrested following a robbery at a mobile phone shop in Rugby’s town centre.
The incident occurred just before 4pm on Tuesday (10 June), when two individuals wearing balaclavas entered a shop on Church Street.
According to police, the suspects threatened staff members and assaulted one of the assistants before making off with a quantity of mobile phones. While the staff involved were fortunately uninjured, they were left understandably shaken.
Thanks to immediate reports from members of the public, officers were quickly dispatched to the scene. A coordinated response led to the arrest of two 17-year-old boys and a 24-year-old man, all on suspicion of robbery.
The suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
Rugby’s Area Commander, Chief Inspector Angus Eagles said: “This was a frightening incident for the shop workers and we’re doing everything we can to piece together exactly what happened.
"Thanks to a speedy initial response and great teamwork and support from partners and the public, we were able to make three arrests rapidly and recover all the stolen property.”
In response to community concern, uniformed officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the town centre today (Wednesday 11 June).
Chief Inspector Eagles urged anyone with information to come forward: “If you witnessed the robbery, were in the area at the time, or have phone footage, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
"Any information – no matter how small – may be helpful as our investigation progresses.”
Police continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone who may have relevant video or photographic evidence.
Anyone with information is encouraged to speak with officers in the area or contact local police directly.
