Police vehicle rammed as thieves attempt to take £15k of vodka
It happened in the early hours of this morning.
Warwickshire Police were called to Warwick Services on the northbound stretch of the M40 to report of two males acting suspiciously around a lorry taking items from the trailer of a parked Lorry.
When the offenders saw police arrive they made off in a cloned Renault HGV and rammed a police vehicle to make their escape.
Officers then found the cloned lorry abandoned and unattended in the live outside lane of the M40.
The lorry contained around 150 bottles of vodka believed to have been stolen from a lorry at the service station.
Police recovered the goods worth up to £15,000 and returned it to the trailer it was stolen from.
Detective Inspector Pete Sherwood, vehicle crime lead for Warwickshire Police, said: “Gangs continue to come into the county to target lorry parks. We are patrolling these sites regularly.
"The public can help by being vigilant and calling 999 if they see anyone acting suspiciously around lorry parks. With officers patrolling these sites we may well have officers nearby to respond quickly.”
