On 6 September at just before 9pm, an unconscious male was discovered outside of a shop on Park Road in Bedworth.

He had serious head injuries which required hospital attention.

CCTV from the scene showed Aaron Murphy approach the victim when he was approaching the cashpoint outside the store, before commencing an assault involving over twenty punches being thrown by Murphy.

Aaron Murphy, 21 of Attleborough Road in Nuneaton, was sentenced to four years in prison for assault causing grievous bodily harm on 1 November at Warwick Crown Court.

This was combined with 11 years for aggravated burglary and three years for robbery (both investigations with West Midlands Police) for a combined total of 18 years in prison.

DS Rich Walker said “Murphy committed an act of violence which resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries and falling unconscious – at which point, he walked away and left him on the pavement.

“As his other contemporary sentencings for activities over the border in the West Midlands show, this is a pattern of violent behaviour for Murphy.

“He has earnt every single second of the 18 years he is about to spend behind bars. By the time he gets out the world will have moved on without him – we hope this gives him food for thought.”
