A signage company in Nuneaton is opening doors for young people with learning difficulties.

Nuneaton Signs aim to provide meaningful employment for people with disabilities, with 74% of their workforce living with additional needs.

The company is working in partnership with North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire Collage to provide a ten week internship to students with additional needs.

Interns who have enrolled onto the scheme receive personalised job support on the shop floor and life skills coaching.

So far, eleven interns now work full-time at Nuneaton Signs after the success of the programme.

Holly Hunter, from Nuneaton Signs, says the programme is changing lives: "The biggest thing we've seen through this scheme is the confidence it's giving young people with learning difficulties.

"On their first day many students can't look you in the eye but by the end of the programme their spending time with colleagues outside of work.

"It's also changing wider family dynamics too. The mum of an intern, who we've now employed, said she was able to go back to work.

"It's amazing to see what difference this scheme can make."

Adam Morris works closely with the students on the shop floor, he shares what students take away from their time with the company: "Depending on their own skill-set they can do anything and everything to do with the manufacturing and design of signs.

"Whether people get a job with us at the end, or not, they are equipped with skills they can take out into the big wide world."
