Coventry’s newest police base has been officially opened - 640 metres away from a previous station.

The new site at Bow Court, Canley is home to the neighbourhood teams who serve the area, 24/7 emergency response officers and a specialist taskforce.

The old Canley police base closed in March, with the front office shutting almost 15 years ago.

West Midlands Police decided it was too big for their current needs and required extensive repairs and renovations, so a new base was chosen.

Chief Superintendent Paul Joyce, responsible for policing across the whole of Coventry, said: “The team have settled into their new offices quickly and are already making a difference.

“A recent patrol by local neighbourhood officers nearby resulted in the arrest of a man found with 14 wraps of heroin, two bags of suspected cannabis, £550 in cash and a ball of what was believed to be crack cocaine worth £10,000.

“Elsewhere, a trailer was stolen from a local gardening business. Officers acted on a tip off and were able to return it to the owner.”

Coventry Central police station on Little Park Street, remains the city’s public contact point where people can talk to us face to face if they prefer that over our telephone and online reporting options.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, said: “It’s been pleasing to see the teams in action here in Canley and to see the impact they’re having in the community to help prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and to keep people, families and businesses safe and secure.

“I will continue to rebuild community policing to ensure an accessible, reassuring and visible presence out on the streets.”

The old Canley police based has now been sold to a storage company, with money from the sale going reinvested into policing.
