Murder investigation underway after woman died in Coventry

A murder investigation is underway after a woman died in Coventry.

Officers were called to Long Close Avenue in the city at around 8.30pm where a woman, believed to be in her 50s, was found with injuries.

She was confirmed dead a short time later.

A 57-year-old man - understood to be known to the woman - has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

West Midlands Police say they are in the early stages of their investigation.

Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell said: "A woman has tragically lost her life and our thoughts are with her loved ones and all those impacted by her passing.

"We understand that it will be shocking and distressing for the community and we will continue to have a police presence and offer our support in the area over the coming days.

"A suspect has been arrested and detectives are fully investigating the circumstances around this sad death."
