An investigation's underway after a motorbike rider died after hitting a bus stop pole in Solihull.

Emergency services were called to Widney Road in Bentley Heath at around 6:30pm on Thursday 12 May.

Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the rider, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed off the road, near the junction of Tilehouse Lane, as initial investigations were carried out and it was reopened shortly after 1am on Friday.

Acting Det Sgt Chris Ridge, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts today are with the family of the motorbike rider who has sadly lost his life.

"We're in the early stages of the investigation to establish exactly what happened and officers have already spoken with a number of people at the scene.

"We'd also appeal for any witnesses who we've not yet spoken with, or any drivers who were in the area and have dashcam footage, to get in contact."
