Apprenticeships across Coventry and Warwickshire will help boost the region’s economic growth and investment, according to Labour's growth minister.

Alex Norris visited Coventry's Manufacturing Technology Centre ahead of a major Investment Summit.

The visit is part of the government's strategy to create opportunities across the UK in an effort to drive economic growth and boost the innovation industry.

Minister Norris says the West Midlands plays an integral role in driving innovation in the UK.

He said: “We think of the traditions of this wonderful region, of powering the country and creating those high skilled manufacturing jobs, we want to see that again.”

During his visit, Alex Norris has a first-hand look at how the Manufacturing Technology Centre is playing a pivotal role in fostering innovation and growth.

Established in 2010, the centre is renowned for its research and development in manufacturing technologies.

Minister Norris also met with apprentices who are gaining valuable skills and experience at the site.

He says skills development and apprenticeships are a key component of the government’s industrial strategy.

Minister Norris explained: “We see apprenticeships as absolutely crucial.

“It's about getting the right skills and opportunities to have long careers in industries of the future. It's good for them and good for the community too.”

This visit comes as the government gears up the International Investment Summit, set to take place on October 14th.

The event will bring together up to 300 industry leaders and investors as part of a broader effort to create new partnerships with businesses and encourage investment into the UK.

Minister Norris said: “To the international community who we're bringing to the Investment Summit on Monday, invest here.

“We have brilliant young people with the right skills, who can prosper and build great businesses. It's an exciting future I think.”
