Man arrested on suspicion of murder in Nuneaton

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident in Nuneaton this morning (Tuesday 1 June).

Emergency services were called to College Street at around 9.10am, following concerns for a woman inside a property.

Officers and paramedics attended, where a woman in her 80s was pronounced deceased. Her death is currently being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem is due to take place.

The woman’s next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialist liaison officers.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Caroline Corfield from Warwickshire Police said: “An investigation has been launched and a number of enquiries are now ongoing to ascertain the circumstances of this incident.

“As part of our enquiries, we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area between 7pm last night and 9am this morning.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call Warwickshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 94 of 1 June 2021.

“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this difficult time, and we would ask that their privacy is respected.”
