Man arrested as major Coventry cannabis farm shut down by police
Officers found over 500 plants
A man has been arrested for his involvement in what police are calling a "major cannabis farm" in Coventry.
Officers from the force's Gangs team carried out a warrant at an address in Humber Avenue this morning where, acting on intelligence, they found a cannabis farm with more than 500 plants inside.
Inside the house, they found four separate growing rooms with extensive heating and lighting set up as well as heat filtering pipes and living quarters.
A 22-year-old man was arrested inside the property and remains in custody.
West Midlands Police also found the electricity in the property had been illegally bypassed - which they say made the premises dangerous as it can create a fire hazard which can spread to neighbouring properties.
Chief Inspector Dave Amos, from Coventry Local Policing Area, said: "This was an excellent piece of work to take a substantial cannabis farm out of action and keep drugs off our streets.
"Cannabis farms are extremely dangerous, not only to the people inside, but to the communities surrounding them. Not only from the crime associated with them, but also from the risk of catastrophic fires from the dangerously bypassed electricity they use.
"We rely on information from the public to build a picture of where this kind of criminality is happening, as well as who is responsible.
"I'd urge anyone concerned this kind of activity is happening where they live to get in touch with us and tell us what you know."
