The M42 in Warwickshire is closed southbound between J10 Tamworth Interchange and J9 Dunton Interchange due to a lorry fire.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident and remained on scene to assist in the removal of the load (of cardboard) from the remains of the lorry and damping down before it could be taken away.

National Highways said the removal of the lorry and its load of cardboard was a slow process and was not completed until 05:00 BST on Thursday.

The fire has caused the road surface of both lanes of the southbound carriageway to be damaged and a spokesperson for the organisation said the entire width of the carriageway needed resurfacing before it could be safely reopened

It was expected to remain closed throughout Thursday morning and into the afternoon.
