A driver has been jailed for six years after he hit a motorcyclist and left him lying in the road.

Malachi McClelland, aged 29, died three weeks after he was hit on Kenilworth Road, Coventry in October 2020.

West Midlands police found Azeem Khan the driver responsible after finding the fog light of his VW golf at the scene.

Khan pulled out of the junction, failing to give way, hitting McClelland off his motorbike.

McCelland was left on the wrong side of the road where he was hit by a bus.

The 29 year old died from his injuries three weeks later.

His parent said he was a “loving son, brother and partner’ who ‘enjoyed life to the full".

They added: “He was always reliable – one of the kindest, generous, sincere, reliable people you would ever meet.

“As a family we have had to wait over two years for the defendant to finally admit his guilt just a few days before the trial was due to start- only now can we grieve.’

West Midlands Police said Khan made “deliberate attempts to get away with facing justice” after he made alterations to his car to cover up the damage caused in the collision.

Khan also changed the registration plate.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: “The grief his callous actions and total lack of thought for anyone but himself has had on Malachi’s loved ones cannot be comprehended."
