Leamington man jailed for rape
33-year-old Victor Tsamo has been jailed for 13 years.
Warwickshire Police say a woman in her 20s was out in Leamington in the early hours of 28th August 2022 when she was approached by an unknown man.
The man - who was later identified as Victor Tsamo - picked the woman up, carried her to his car before driving around Leamington and Whitnash for two hours. During that time, he stopped in a car park where he raped the victim and recorded it on his phone.
The woman reported the incident to police and officers quickly identified Tsamo’s car and number plate from CCTV footage, which led to the 33-year-old being arrested and subsequently charged with rape.
Following a week trial in March, the 33-year-old, of St Margaret’s Road, was found guilty on Thursday (11 May) at Warwick Crown Court.
Detective Constable Leanne Frost said: “Understandably, this has been very traumatic for the victim who has been amazing since the start of the investigation. She has shown immense bravery throughout – even choosing to give evidence during the trial in front of Tsamo.
“Thankfully the jury saw through his lies, and he has been convicted of this appalling crime. I know the victim is delighted with the outcome and I hope she will now be able to move on with her life.
"I also hope the conviction provides reassurance to other victims of sexual offences and gives them the confidence to report their ordeal in the knowledge that they will be listened to and supported.
“Police will always investigate and do everything in their power to bring offenders to justice.”
