A bungling car key burglar who ran out of petrol in the car he had stolen has been jailed.

On the morning of 9 October, Adam Sherry broke into a house in Leamington, found the keys to the car parked on the drive and stole it.

Sherry, 34, of Jasmine Walk, Banbury was caught on CCTV going on to the driveway and a short time later filling up the car with other items stolen from the house.

A few hours later, officers received a report of a man matching Sherry’s description who had run out of petrol in Daventry.

Officers attended to find the stolen car full of items stolen from the house.

CCTV images from the burglary led to Sherry being identified as the suspect and a couple of weeks later he was arrested.

Appearing at Warwick Crown Court last week, Sherry was sentenced to 876 days in prison after pleading guilty to burglary, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Detective Constable Paul-Lloyd Luke from Leamington Proactive CID said: “It’s clear Mr Sherry won’t be getting a job as a getaway driver anytime soon.”
