Help keep Coventry food bank going this winter

An emergency appeal has been launched for donations.

For the first time ever Coventry food bank is giving out more food than is being donated.

It comes as the soaring cost of living means more and more people are being forced to use food banks.

Gavin Kibble, founder of the Coventry Foodbank said: "Our demand is out stripping our supply by about 2/1 so for every 1 kg we get in at the moment, 2kg is going out and that really isn't sustainable in the long term, so we urgently need the general public to get behind us and support us in this crisis."

"There was a time when we never saw pensioners coming through the foodbank, it was virtually unheard of, less than 1% of the people coming through our foodbank would be over 65 and now for the first time I'm seeing pensioners who cannot make it work at all at the moment."

Gavin added: "Please don't forget us, I know it's difficult out there, but an extra tin of something when you do your weekly shopping donated to your foodbank makes all the difference, so please, please consider us when you go out to the supermarket."

The Trussell Trust, who support a nationwide network of food banks including here in Coventry, have now launched their first ever Emergency Fund Appeal, to help meet the increased need and keep food banks going this winter.
