Gun crime in Coventry falls significantly, according to police
West Midlands Police say they will continue their 'relentless approach' to cutting crime.
Gun crime across Coventry has significantly fallen, according to West Midlands Police.
They say, in 2023, 12 illegally held firearms were seized as firearms discharges fell across the city in the previous 12 motnhs.
There were seven discharges throughout the whole of the city in 2023 compared to 18 in the year before.
The stats come as West Midlands Police continue their work to keep reducing gun crime and proactively target those linked to criminal groups.
The force say they have a specialist gangs and organised crime team in Coventry who work alongside other units, including the force's new major crime team, to take weapons off the streets.
Chief Inspector Dave Amos, from Coventry Local Policing Area (LPA), said: "We know the serious impact of firearms across our communities and we'll continue our relentless approach to cut gun crime.
"We have teams working every day of the year to keep you safe and every gun we take off the streets reduces the risk of harm.
"We've seen before the devastation they can cause and we'll act on information and use our expertise to find anyone involved in weapons.
"It's not glamorous to be involved in gangs and to carry a gun as such a lifestyle can put your own life at risk or lead to many years in prison."
