It follows a number of such fires recently

A number of chimney fires in Warwickshire lately is prompting calls for us to get our swept.

Firefighters have attended blazes in Leamington Spa, Rugby and Northend in the last week.

Councillor Andy Crump, Portfolio Holder for Fire and Rescue and Community Safety at Warwickshire County Council said:

“We want everyone to stay safe during the colder months this year. I would encourage homeowners to think about the last time their chimney was swept and to plan ahead to the next time it will be required. Please make sure that all embers are extinguished before you go to bed and make use of a fire guard to protect against flying hot sparks.”

We're also being advised to go into the loft when having a fire, to check the chimney and make sure smoke isn't escaping through any cracks in the brickwork. If there is, we should get it fixed as soon as possible.

Firefighters are also reminding us of the importance of having a working smoke alarm and to test it weekly.
