Four charged in connection with Johnny Robbins murder investigation
Five people arrested in early morning operation linked to 2018 Coventry deaths
Four men have been charged with conspiracy to murder as part of an ongoing West Midlands Police investigation into the disappearance and suspected murder of Johnny Robbins in 2018.
Mr Robbins, aged 33, went missing on 21 March 2018 and is believed to have been tortured before being killed. His body has never been found. His death is being treated as linked to the murder of Daniel Shaw, who was found with gunshot wounds in Copland Place, Tile Hill, on 25 March 2018.
Today, five individuals were arrested during an early morning operation carried out at multiple addresses in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Sam Jones, 26, and Ben Whyley, 36, have both been charged with kidnap, false imprisonment, wounding with intent, and conspiracy to murder.
Jordan Doswell, 29, and Junior Makosso, 28, have been charged with false imprisonment, wounding with intent, and conspiracy to murder and Thomas Young, 29, has been charged with kidnap and false imprisonment.
All five are due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court this afternoon (Monday).
At this stage, the charges relate only to the alleged kidnap, torture and murder of Johnny Robbins. West Midlands Police have confirmed that there is currently insufficient evidence to bring charges in relation to the death of Daniel Shaw.
Six other individuals who were either arrested or interviewed voluntarily during the course of the investigation in 2023 will face no further action.
Detective Inspector Jenny Birch, the Senior Investigating Officer, said:
“This is a really significant development in our investigation into the deaths of Johnny and Daniel.
“We’ve remained committed to finding out what happened to them both. We’ve updated their families on today’s progress and will continue to support them.
“Seven years have passed, and allegiances change. We’re still urging anyone with information to come forward and help us get the truth.”
Police are continuing to appeal for information regarding Ryan Hobday, who was 28 at the time of the incident and is wanted in connection with the case. Officers believe Hobday may also have been murdered, but his whereabouts remain unknown.
