Former West Midlands Mayor rules himself out of general election
Andy Street has confirmed he won't be aiming to be an MP
The former mayor of the West Midlands has announced he won't run to be an MP in the forthcoming general election.
There were rumours Andy Street would go into Westminster, after losing the mayoral election earlier this month.
In a statement on social media, Mr Street says he's thought long and hard about whether to stand for Parliament at the upcoming general election.
But, in the end, he's decided against it, saying it's simply not the role for him.
He's announced he'll continue to use his voice to champion a moderate and inclusive Conservatism.
We don't yet know what is in store for the former mayor - but he's promised to explore opportunities.
