Coventry Warm Hub for Young People opening in City Centre
A Warm Hub for young people is opening in Coventry City Centre.
A homelessness prevention charity is launching a Warm Hub for young people in Coventry - in response to the cost-of-living crisis and rising energy bills.
Bardsley Youth Project will be open to people aged 16 to 25 who are struggling to heat their homes this winter.
Young people will be able to keep warm, charge their phones, get hot drinks, toast and soup, and access Bardsley’s other services such as 1:1 support.
New research by CenterPoint suggests that those aged up to 24 years are at risk of going without food and heating, as Universal Credit for this age group remains lower than the standard rate.
Rachel Orman, the charity’s Communications and Fundraising Officer, said: “We can see them struggling and people have been requesting food packages and things.
“We won't know how bad it is until the middle of winter - but we're expecting them to basically have to choose between heating and eating.”
She added: “It's not just heating that's gone up. It's the price of everything, so it's really hard.”
Bardsley Youth Project is a youth homelessness prevention and crisis relief charity, supporting young people who are concerned about their housing situation.
This year, they saw 58% rise in demand – which they expect will further increase as the cost-of-living crisis continues.
The Warm Hub will open on 1st December and will be held every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1 - 4 pm at Bardsley House.
