A Coventry University student has been jailed for a minimum of 24 years for the murder of another student in Coventry city centre.

Coventry University student Shuo Zou was with friends holding a party for a mutual friend of his and the defendant Pengqi Sun.

A disagreement broke out between the two. This was escalated by the defendant where he assaulted Shuo Zou which was quickly stopped by friends.

However Sun did not let the matter rest there and returned home to arm himself with two blades of a broken pair of scissors, and a knife.

The 23-year-old sought his adversaries at a bus stop and launched an attack, inflicting a fatal neck wound to Shuo Zou.

His friend who came to his aid, also suffered serious hand injuries.

22-year-old Shuo Zou died at the scene.

Sun was also given an eight-year sentence for wounding with intent, as well as two one-year sentences for possession of a bladed article.

The other charges will run concurrently with his 24-year term.
