A man from Coventry has been named as one of the ten finalists for the VisitEngland 'Tourism Superstar' competition.

Pete Chambers is the director and founder of The Coventry Music Museum, alongside his career as a journalist. Pete has promoted Coventry and Warwickshire music both regionally and nationally.

As it prepares for its 10th birthday, the museum allows visitors to explore Coventry’s music heritage – from the 2-tone movement and Delia Derbyshire, who composed the famous Doctor Who theme tune, to the city’s time as the centre of the UK rave scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Claire England, senior destination manager for Destination Coventry, said:

“Coventry Music Museum is one of our cultural gems and is a real celebration of Coventry’s rich musical heritage.

“Pete is the museum’s driving force and his passion over the last decade has made it a must-visit location for anyone that loves music, so much so that people have travelled from across the globe to visit.

“He is a true ambassador for the city, he has an unrivalled knowledge of Coventry music and fully deserves to be a finalist for VisitEngland Tourism Superstar.”

VisitEngland, director Andrew Stokes, said:

“We have the most wonderful people working in our industry and Tourism Superstar is about recognising those individuals who go the extra mile to make visitor experiences truly special. Whether discovering a city from its waterways, exploring a destination led by volunteers, running a cycle hire non-profit or showcasing culinary delights with food tours, these individuals truly go above and beyond in their roles as tourism ambassadors.

“I congratulate the 10 finalists and wish them every success in the competition, though of course they are all superstars already. I also encourage everyone to get involved and cast their votes once the competition opens.”

The West Midlands overall represents over 20% of the competition's finalists.
