An armed raider who was stopped by the people he was trying to rob has been jailed for more than four years after being linked by West Midlands Police to attempted robbery.

26-year-old Peshang Ahmed forced his way into a property in Hillfields and then demanded money after being confronted by an occupier on 12 September last year.

He was armed with a machete as he threatened to harm the resident, before two more people from the address were awoken and went to assist.

Between the three of them they challenged Ahmed, forcing him to drop the weapon, and he fled the address empty-handed.

West Midlands Police say the occupiers of the house escaped with minor injuries.

The 26-year-old, of no fixed address, admitted attempted robbery and also possession of a bladed article. He was sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment at Coventry Crown Court last Tuesday (16 May).
