Coventry drugs den closed by police
Officers went to the property in Wren Street back in December.
Police have shut down a house linked to drug abuse and prostitution after hearing how tenants were a constant nuisance to their neighbours.
Officers were also called to deal with regular disorders outside the address, which is in the Hillfields area, and people injecting drugs in an alleyway used by school-run parents and children.
Two drugs warrants were executed at the house last year where the residents – a man aged 50 and a 46-year-old woman – were arrested.
Seventy wraps of suspected crack cocaine were found inside a sock which was thrown from a window – and at another address linked to the woman we found £25,000 in cash and another 400 drugs wraps.
That second raid was last December, enquiries are progressing and the woman remains under investigation.
But police have now secured a closure order on the property – granted by magistrates in Coventry last week (16 March).
The tenants have moved out and we’ve boarded the house up for at least the next three months.
Neighbourhood officer PC Antony Coy, said: “The area is popular with students and young families. The kinds of issues linked to the property in Wren Street were totally unacceptable.
“I’m pleased the court has recognised the seriousness of the issues around the tenants and granted the closure order.
“This example shows how we will use all tactics at our disposal to respond positively to people’s concerns and hopefully improve their lives.”
The closure order runs for three months when it will be reviewed alongside the council and property landlord.
